John Liptak is an award-winning author of reproducible workbooks.

ABOUT JOHN LIPTAK, Ed.D.

John is an internationally recognized author with over thirty years of experience in counseling, consulting, and training. John created the notion of Therapeutic Hope Training as a set of "Steps to Mental Health." 


John Liptak's Writing History:

  • John has authored over 100 workbooks with Ester Leutenberg on topics such as stress management, substance abuse, domestic violence, and developing and maintaining effective personal and intimate relationships. 

 

  • John has authored 31 quantitative career assessment instruments.


  • John has authored ten books with major publishing firms. 

 

  • John has also written 10 books with Michelle Scallon, including The Hope Series, which forms the basis of the THT Approach.



John Liptak's Work Experience:

  • John has experience as a therapist in prison settings, private practice, mental health centers, and university settings. 


  • John has teaching experience in Counselor Education Programs at Radford University, Wilmington University, and Walden University Online.  



John Liptak's  Educational Background:

  • John earned a Bachelor's Degree (Psychology) and a Master's Degree (Community Agency Counseling) from California University of Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh.


  • John also earned a Doctor of Education degree in Counselor Education from Virginia Tech. 



John Liptak's Business Experience:  

  • John is the President of the Therapeutic Hope Center, an affiliate of CCA, Inc., one of the largest and most productive research and development firms that specializes in creating, writing, researching, and developing hope-related psycho-educational materials. 


  • John works with multiple publishing firms, and his developed materials are used in over twenty different countries and a wide variety of settings, including prisons, mental health facilities, schools, and job training programs.

  • John’s work has been featured in the Associated Press, in numerous newspapers, including the Washington Post, Tampa Bay Times, and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and on MSNBC television and CNN Radio. 


  • John also appeared in the PAX/ION television series “Success without a College Degree.”

John trained 'hard-to-place" students by promoting Positive Psychology, celebrating imagination and

John traveled to China to work with young people who felt trapped by limited education, unable to leverage their innate skills for employment in the 21st century. They believed they were stuck, but what they truly lacked was a sense of hope and purpose. By introducing them to the concepts of the Hierarchy of Hope and positive psychology, John aimed to instill Protective Hope Habits that could transform their outlook on life.

John visited the Scottish Highlands and provided trainers for teachers and therapists in the five St

John collaborated with community members, including parents, teachers, and counselors, who were concerned that their young people had lost hope and were experiencing learned helplessness. To combat this, John introduced Therapeutic Hope techniques, which are grounded in the principles of positive psychology, to help participants develop Protective Hope Habits and become effective Hope Mentors within the Hierarchy of Hope.

John provided training for teachers, school counselors, and social workers to implement an SEI progr

Suceava, Romania

John spent four weeks in Romania teaching teachers and school counselors about the importance of the Hierarchy of Hope in fostering positive psychology among students. By developing Protective Hope Habits, this SEI training empowered students to build confidence and cultivate greater hope. The program has since been implemented on a country-wide scale.
