Hope Generation Skill 2: Engage Fully With Flow

People who flourish tend to engage with life fully. Being engaged with life can mean many things to different people, such as feeling happy and satisfied with your life, having warm social and supportive relationships, being hopeful about your future, having a sense of purpose and meaning, and being totally engaged in all aspects of your life. As people heal during the pandemic, learning how to stay engaged in the things that bring the most joy is important. Engagement is often described as a deep state in which people purposely create extended periods of time to engage in passions related to work, hobbies, family time, and community welfare.

There is no one pathway to an engaged life. All people have the opportunity to become more engaged in their lives through….

▪ Engaging in spare-time activities such as singing, gardening, and exercising.

▪ Engaging through volunteer work to help animals, the elderly, or students.

▪ Engaging at work by learning new technology, taking on leadership roles, and mentoring other employees.

▪ Engaging by using your inner strengths such as courage, altruism, and patience.

▪ Engaging by focusing on social relationships involving family, friends, and community.

When people are in the flow, they are so engrossed in an activity or task that they lose track of themselves, and time goes by very quickly.
